“There has been resistance against administrative detention, on the grounds that administrative detention is illegal and illegitimate and is in contravention of Article 78 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. In accordance with this convention, administrative detention can only take place once, it can’t be renewed. It should be for 3 or 4 months, and then the detainee should be released, not for several years. There are some administrative detainees who have spent 7 years continuously in administrative detention, as a result of repeated renewals throughout detention. We must resist and stand with the detainees in their battle against this form of detention, which is illegal and illegitimate.”
